Its fall again (Yes!) and it means pumpkin season time. Pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks, pumpkin pie, pumkin scented candles, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin scented soaps, pumpkin flavored cream cheese, yadayadayada…
PUMPKIN FREAKIN’ EVERYTHING!
Of course, being the adventurous, almost willing-to-try-everything-once people that we are, we tried jumping on the pumpkin wagon because it was the American thing to do in the fall. So the Husband and I shared a cup of hot pumpkin spice latte. We even bought a quart of pumpkin ice cream and pumpkin flavored cream cheese.
How did we find it? Meh.
But maybe except pumpkin pie. That I can eat again.
I guess we just have no nostalgic attachment with this particular vegetable, except when cooked as ginataang kalabasa’t sitaw (i.e. string beans and squash cooked in coconut milk & shrimp paste) and pinakbet (i.e. a Northern Philippine version of ratatouille – stewed vegetable dish in shrimp paste). Oh, and the more upscale preparation of squash in soup form, which is usually served in hotels and buffet part spreads.
So now, we are not jumping on this seasonal eats bandwagon. For now, I will be more than happy to just take photos with them pumpkins.
Aren’t they cute?
