I’ve never understood why lovers placed locks engraved with their initials on popular bridges. Okay, I know it is a romantic gesture, a reminder of their love, a demonstration of “forever and ever”
I was amused when I saw these locks littered on one too many steel cables and rods of the Brooklyn Bridge.
But after a few minutes of power walking (Yes, with the rush of the mix of tourists and locals, you do keep up with the NY pace) and seeing the cars below the bridge, these love locks suddenly sounded more irresponsible than romantic.
Did these couples even think of what would happen should their lock, which could possibly be one of those hard as rocks ones, fall onto a passing vehicle? What if it hit windshield of a car, causing the driver to panic and lose control of his steering wheel? (I know, I may have been watching too much TV drama and movies) What if it hit the head of an un-helmeted biker?
Sorry to burst your romantic bubble guys, please consider that those locks could be hazards for normal people going about their business.
