We stumbled into La Jolla Cove, San Diego not knowing that the hunger grumbles would hit hard. Maybe it was we had too much fun walking around and stalking the cute seals of the cove.
We had no idea where to eat as we didn’t do any prior research (which I usually do) plus The Husband’s phone was dying. Good thing we walked some more and saw this small little shop, El Pescador Fish Market, where the lines of people extended out onto the 4-car parking lot.
And when there’s a line, it definitely must be good.
Now that we knew where to eat, the next question was what were we to eat?
And so we craned our necks and moved our eyes from table to table to check out what the other diners ordered to get a feel of what the restaurant best offered. Tacos with a confetti of shredded lettuce and slivers of creamy avocadoes and platters of sashimi adorned each table.
The Husband ended up ordering fish tacos with the catch of the day and I ordered a bowl of clam chowder, just because I wasn’t particularly starved.
The Husband, who is not a fan of seafood, actually ohhhhhed and ahhhhhed all throughout eating his fish tacos. The fish was so meaty and fresh, which didn’t have that icky smell. The avocado added the much needed fattiness to the lean fish.
I loved my bowl of clam chowder, which was not as hearty as I expected. It was quite refreshing for a filling bowl of soup. Perfect for the warm sunny day of walking by the cove.
Oh, and apart from having such fresh food, it does help that the guys at the counter are particularly yummy. If you know what I mean.
Eating there is a feast for the tummy and the eyes. Hehe.
