Over the few months we’ve been here, The Husband and I have learned that just as the seasons change, so do the products that line the shelves of supermarkets. At the height of Autumn, there came an invasion of all things pumpkin flavored. Apart from pumpkin pies, you had pumpkin spiced lattes, pumpkin spice ice cream, pumpkin spiced cream cheese, pumpkin spiced carrot cheese cakes and pumpkin spiced Chinese egg rolls and instant ramen…I kid. Unfortunately, The Husband and I have not taken a liking for these pumpkin fiends; some products we’ve tried remain untouched in our refrigerator, gathering errrrrm microscopic friends, which hopefully do enjoy the carby, mildly sweet, cinnamon and nutmeg laced flavors. Though we did enjoy spiced apple cider, another autumn seasonal product, this post is not about that because pumpkin and apple season is so OVER.
This cold season, we’ve learned, is all about EGGNOG, an intensely rich, creamy and eggy, thick drink to help fatten you up when the body needs additional warmth (i.e. another layer of fat…not that we don’t have more than enough). And eggnog season as well is OVER…almost. Gasp! This is why, the past weekends have been dedicated to picking up every eggnog carton available to North Texas…at least within a 20-mile radius of our apartment.
You’ve seen our collection? There’s actually 3 more bottles missing from the picture: 2 of which The Husband and I have chugged and glugged and 1 that’s waiting our grubby eggnog crazy palates. If we knew earlier on that eggnog was this good: thick and sweet like melted ice cream which is way past its prime but still more than good enough to lick and slurp from the bowl, we would have hoarded even more eggnog.
Too bad for us, the supermarkets we frequent (Yes, we visit more than one) only have a handful of cartons left or NONE. Oh, and since supermarkets need to move the last of their eggnog stash off their shelves, you might be lucky and find eggnogs sold at a discounted price.
So, if you love eggnog like we do, tis the season to hoard eggnog…Falalalalalalalalaaaaaahhh!
