From reheating to real cooking

Leftover feast: pork siomai, mixed veg and biryani rice. Let’s not forget the milk.

The Husband always said that the Dubai life is fast paced. I never really believed it until I realized that it’s been a little bit over a year since I’ve set foot in the desert as a married woman. Upon realizing this, a fuzzy sentimental feeling washed over me as I recall the very first proper home meal The Husband and I had as a married couple.

I unpacked my pink luggage as soon as we reached home and went on a cleaning and organizing frenzy as I went through the nooks and crannies of his former bachelor pad, now turned into our wee home. True to bachelor pad form, The Husband only had leftovers for us to eat. And so he reheated our lunch of pork siomai, mixed vegetables and biryani rice as I set our plates and utensils on our coffee table / dining table. I know, I know, I know…not the best combination, but we were hungry and that was all we had within reach. (And I was preparing my tummy for the Bu Qtair shrimp meal, which was perhaps the most anticipated meal at that time)

It was a symbolic transition meal from the single life to the married life, the start of more shared meals together and perhaps a reminder of our humble beginnings. With all the cooking I’ve done in a year, don’t you think I’ve come quite a long way from just reheating? ;-)

Delirious about delicious,

Didi

You’ve come a really long way, specially now that you’re roasting veggies in the oven, cooking adobos, frying wicked oreos, recreating arroz ala cubana, and upcycling rice and instant noodles!
