Call me crazy, but I still cannot get over the fact that I can now use our oven along with my new roasting pan, which I think I could hug to sleep, more often for healthier and equally delicious meals. And as I was staring into space earlier, I realized that the oven is the kitchen’s washing machine….
The oven doesn’t do any cleaning!?! How could it be the kitchen’s washing machine?
When I use the oven I simply have to shove a pan into it, wait for minutes, an hour or a few hours and voila! Just like when I do the laundry using our washing machine, where I just stuff my pile of dirty clothes in, turn the dial to “mixed loads” setting and leave it be for a couple of hours. (I came from a place where hand washing is still the norm – even if we do have washing machines. And yes, we had help with our laundry. So it is only now that I am discovering the joys of the washing machine!) Can you see the connection?
This is a gift to serial multi-taskers and productivity junkies like me – the time to do something else without compromising another activity. The laundry doesn’t ever mess up if I leave it be and do some other chore or create a blog post. In the same way, most oven dishes do not require hawk-eye supervision. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy my time in front of the warm stove with the occasional spatter of oil or hot liquid (battle scars of home cooks and chefs alike). But when the going gets really busy, time is truly of the essence.
Oh, my kitchen washing machine how I truly love thee! Please do not ever, ever give up on me now…
Delirious about delicious,
