I have a shameless adoration for sausages, or “meat in tube form” as Anthony Bourdain fondly calls these meat links of love.
It was love at first sight when those crimson red mini hotdogs on a stick with rainbow-colored crusty marshmallow stacks were introduced to me at all those birthday parties of my childhood. This then developed into puppy love when fatty garlic injected pork sausages from different provinces: Imus Cavite, Vigan Ilocos Norte, Lucban Quezon, Alaminos Pangasinan, were introduced into my breakfast repertoire. But I knew it was true love when I first tasted sausages, both German and Hungarian, paired with mustard and vinegar laced potato salad from Treffpunkt Jedermann at its defunct branch along Jupiter Street, Makati City. Since then, sausages have been a staple in my meat loving diet.
Good thing that The Husband and I decided to check out Ripe ME at the Dubai Garden Centre and stumbled upon an alluring grilled sausage stand. I could not stand the sizzle of the grill and toasted meaty fragrance from Prime Gourmet, which wafted through the veranda. I was surprised that their grilled sausage sandwiches cost 10AED a pop! Not bad at all! Reasonably priced right?
Though we were headed for a smorgasbord at The Husband’s company family day, we, much influenced by the sausage fanatic…yours truly, decided to grab one sausage sandwich each. And because we were so happy with those darned sausage sandwiches, we decided to pay Prime Gourmet’s main branch, a stone’s throw away from Dubai Garden Centre, a quick visit before the company family day.
It was probably the best decision made that morning as The Husband and I died and went to steak and sausage heaven, a treasure trove of choice thick cuts of marbled meats and meat links of love! *faint* What made the experience even better, aside from basking in the glory of fresh butchered meats, was the helpful and knowledgeable Filipino staff, who, to my very pleasant surprise, could explain the best ways to cook each slab of meat and could enumerate the spices mixed into the different sausage flavors.
The Gluten and MSG-free sausages, I thought were still reasonably priced, ranging from 50-65AED per kilo. Since we wanted to taste most flavors: the Italian spicy beef sausage, the chorizo beef and the Black Angus beef sausage, we picked up 1/4 kilo of each flavor. Kuya (elder brother) was perhaps amused with us that he threw in another 1/4 kilo of the Lamb & Rosemary sausage for free! Ahhh the perks of being Filipino 🙂 We took home a kilo of sausage, but only paid 33AED. It was such a steal!
Surely a sausage fest awaits us in our wee apartment. I’m so excited to sample each sausage flavor this week! Two sausages per meal is alright?
Happy Hungarian Games (i.e. sausage fest as coined by our dear friend Jeo) to me and The Husband! The odds were certainly in our favor this time around 🙂
