I am not ashamed to say that I eat at fast food chains. In fact, I used to work with one back in the Philippines. We all know that they do offer very unhealthy, fried, processed food. But once in a while, it is worth to indulge in something so sinful (but admittedly very affordable!), especially with someone you love.
Speaking of sinful, I am extra guilty because I indulged in another diet cheat day with The Husband, who, again, prepared for a surprise date for us — a night of Dubai Shopping Festival fireworks by Dubai Festival City and a tasting of the new limited edition McDonald’s Mega Mac. The billboards along major thoroughfares in Dubai intrigued us for the past days. Is it really double the size and taste as it claims to be? This was our chance to prove if there is truth in their advertising…
We ordered two McDonald’s Mega Mac meals, both the original beef (23 AED) and the chicken (24 AED) Mega Mac, with a siding of their signature french fries and glasses of fruit juice. I was surprised you can actually order fruit juice instead of softdrinks at no additional costs. In Manila, if you want a drink changed to iced tea, you would have to pay extra.
Moving on the meat of the matter, the McDonald’s Mega Mac burgers did disappoint. Though claiming to be double in size, what we noticed was that their patties were extra thin, making size almost the same as a normal Big Mac…at least in our opinion.
I pointed out to The Husband that it was actually fine because they didn’t promise any specific poundage for the meat in the burgers…else there’d be a lot of consumer backlash.
But despite the disappointment with the Mega-ness of the burgers, we both finished our McDonald’s Mega Macs meals including the burgers, the french fries and the fruit juices.
So was the Mega Mac cheat day worth it? At least I was Mega Mac full from the treat, though the husband wasn’t as full as he would have wanted to be. Even if it was a double cheat day for me this week, I think these spontaneous surprise dates with The Husband, ironically simple yet indulgent as they may be, are still Mega Mac worth it! Certified mega in calories and mega in cheese (at least the romantic kind)!
Delirious about delicious,
Didi
P.S. Does the McDonald’s in your corner of the world serve Mega Mac’s too?
P.P.S. The Dubai Shopping Festival fireworks were so-so. You need to walk a bit, around 15-20 minutes of walking to catch a good view of the fireworks. Well, you could say that we did burn off some of the mega calories last night.
