Back in Manila, I took myself out. Yes, you read that correctly. I do go out on dates with myself. A date with me, myself and I. Aren’t you supposed to go out on dates with someone else? That is true. You do need somebody else to take out.
But don’t you consider your inner self as another person? Well, I do think she is…
My inner self is a bit of me to the rest of the world, but a bit different as well. Like me me, she is quite neurotic. Hmmm…maybe even more neurotic than I am. So she is chatty…she talks a LOT, jabbering at the speed of light, jumping from one topic to another faster than you can scream “WAIT!” Plus, she is quite a glutton…don’t tell her I said that. Shhhhhhhh!
She does order more than she can handle. Tsk! Tsk! That is why we end up spending more than 4-hours together. Did I mention she is clingy too? Yeah. We go out at least once a week.
My inner self and I, we enjoy eating together. Duh. And another thing we enjoy doing together is taking leisurely strolls around just about anywhere: usually the malls and the park. This regular date of ours is a welcome breather to sort all kinds of thoughts: review and dissect past incidents, daydream and evaluate future plans together, then make a random checklist of things to do for the week ahead.
When I came to Dubai, my inner self took a backseat. Sorry girl, the Husband is the priority now. So after three weeks of my start-up Dubai life, she nonchalantly quips: “Hey, we don’t have fun no more. We’re cooped up all day and night at home. Could we PLEASE go out some time soon?” She IS clingy, so I know that she’s been craving for that date already. I could actually imagine her pulling out her hair like the real madwoman that she is. Oh, is that a piece of her scalp on the floor? Eeep. She is serious about this date.
And finally, I gave in to her request. We finally went out on our first Dubai date the other night. It was nothing out of the ordinary. We took a nice leisurely nighttime stroll around our desert community and went window shopping around Mall of the Emirates.
Then, we suddenly found ourselves wandering along the aisles of Carrefour. Supermarkets are part of our favorite dates places too. I don’t know if it was fate, but this special offer just called both our names.
Damn! 1-kilo of frozen strawberries for only 7AED (PHP 77)! I must admit I am not a fan of supermarket special deals, but this one is really a steal! I grabbed two bags…One for me and the other for my inner self. Glutton much? I told you she was one right?
We both got so excited that we listed down the possibilities we could cook up with these two bags. Strawberries with cereal (Check! I had some yesterday). Strawberries with pancakes. Strawberries with honey. Strawberries with yoghurt. Strawberries with ice cream. Strawberries with condensed milk. Lemonade with strawberries (Check! I drank some for lunch). Or perhaps just plain strawberries.
With my inner self, I see only endless possibilities, not withstanding the obstacles I face in real life. I don’t worry about the limitations. Anything and everything is possible. When I am on a date with my inner self, I live in a bubble where pigs can and do fly all the time. When I am on a date with my inner self, I start to believe and trust in my capabilities more. If these pigs can fly, then so can I…at least, I think I can even for just a few hours.
Good thing we still have those 2-kilo bags of frozen strawberries to enjoy together. Hopefully that will last us a week or even two.
Delirious about Delicious,
