Project 30: Happiness in a Cup

I’m officially 30 years old today! Broke, Jobless but in love :-) Hehehehe! Hence, celebrations are kept to a bare minimum or rather not even there, which is not a problem at all because I have no choice! Hahahaha! But I believe that in life and true love, happiness is not found in the grand gestures. It is found in the itty bitty details that we fail to see. Like in this Php 10 (USD 0.23) plastic cup…

Happiness!

Peddled in the busy business districts, Taho is a favorite quick, cheap breakfast fare of mine. It’s a warm to the still sleepy and sluggish, waking tummy! A complete and filling breakfast in a cup with protein from the silky soft tofu, sugar from the pandan infused brown sugar syrup and starch from the tapioca pearls. It’s quite handy too, being in a plastic cup. You can eat, or rather drink it, while rushing to the office or to your 1st meeting of the day.

But today, I wasn’t rushing at all. I was just savoring each single second of my very simple birthday. I didn’t have a big birthday dinner (the usual thing I have with family every year) nor a big party (admittedly, I am not a party thrower). Today, I just ran some errands and spent time celebrating with God (and my sister who accompanied me to confession, the rosary and mass) and myself. Being stripped down to bare necessities was liberating. It made me see how much God has blest me with a good life: a life of love and support from my family, my friends (everyone whom I’ve met in the past 30 years) and now The Husband. Despite the imperfection of it (Did I mention I am broke and jobless? I did right?), I still feel thankful because I know that God has more good things (and good food!) in store for me.

Of course, thank you to the wonderful technology of social networks, I’ve received more than a hundred birthday greetings! I knew I could have just made a generic thank you message to everyone, but today, I decided to express my gratitude to each person who greeted me. So this is how it feels to say “Thank you” a hundred (or more) times. I initially thought it would be such a boring chore, but it wasn’t tiring at all! I am filled with the warmth of the love from family and friends, just like how my little Taho cup fills up my ravenous stomach.

Thank you Lord for all the countless blessings and challenges I’ve had in the past 30 years and the years to come :-) It really is a Happy Birthday to me!

Delirious about delicious,

Didi

P.S. Taho is #6 of my 30 Favorite Food Stuff :-)
