Confessions of a Non-Chocoholic Woman

Will I give this piece a chance?

Women & Chocolate are like spoon & fork, Adam & Eve, Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse, spoon & fork Always together and never (or hardly ever) apart. But I think there will always be outliers. Like me. A woman who can live WITHOUT chocolate.

Chocolate is said to the the cure all for women’s problems. Work troubles, bad breakups, career flops, romance kinks…name it and chocolate can solve it. But being the outlier that I am, I’d rather eat a fatty slice of porkchop (with rice please!) over a bar of chocolate at any day. It is ALWAYS a savory dish over the rich, sinful sweetness of chocolate.

But today, I think the non-chocoholic me has met its match. A chocolate bar that perhaps will give the another chance in my gustatory repertoire.

I almost missed the Theo & Philo booth and it must’ve been fate (or free samples?) that gravitated me to their unique chocolate wares. The first chocolate bar that caught my attention and definitely spiked my curiosity was the green mango and salt variant. It sounded gross. How could chocolate, green mango and salt be a match made it chocolate heaven?!?

Chocolate, Green Mango and Salt?

Oh, Theo & Philo you’ve turned my non-chocoholic ways upside down and inside out. Earthy, buttery dark chocolate peppered with candied green mango bits and crunchy salt diamonds. As the sample bite melted away into oblivion, the sleeping chocoholic beauty in me was awaken by its first true chocolate love’s kiss. I was a smitten kitten. I bought two bars, which I wished I did not share with my family.

SIGH.

As long as all chocolates are as divine as Theo & Philo’s, I think I would be willing to give up that fatty slice of porkchop with rice. Now I finally understand why women can’t live without chocolate. Thank you Theo & Philo!

Check out Theo & Philo at Mercato Centrale, Bonifacio Global City every Saturdays, 7AM to 2PM.
